Meghan Markle arrived on the red carpet for the 2023 Variety Power of Women event in Los Angeles on Thursday embracing quiet luxury in a camel Proenza Schouler dress with asymmetric shoulder detail and a thigh-high slit. The Duchess of Sussex accessorized with a black clutch bag from the brand and black slingback heels from Aquazzura.
Markle’s minimalist dress was from Proenza Schouler’s Resort 2024 collection, which WWD characterized as hitting all the high notes with workwear-influenced suiting, and effortless party looks.
While on the red carpet, Markle discussed the success of “Suits,” the TV series that helped catapult her acting career. Markle starred on the show for its first seven seasons.
Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, have a deal with Netflix they signed in 2020 to create and produce a mix of feature films, scripted shows, children’s programming, documentaries and docuseries.
One of their most recent projects was the documentary “Heart of Invictus,” which premiered on Aug. 3, highlighting Prince Harry’s work with the Invictus Games for wounded and injured military service people. The Duchess of Sussex is responsible for J. Crew’s website temporarily going down in September when searches for the Giselle sweater blazer she wore to the 2023 Invictus Games caused jcrew.com to crash for several hours.
Variety’s Power of Women recognized entertainers who have had a groundbreaking year. Honorees included Carey Mulligan, Fantasia Barrino, Lily Gladstone and Billie Eilish. LuckyChap (the producers of “Barbie”) cofounders Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara received the Producer of the Year Award, and Emily Blunt received the Power of Women Alumni Award.
