Meghan Markle is back.

After the Duchess of Sussex and husband Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, moved back to England in late August, the couple made their first joint appearance in Nottingham on Thursday, with Markle returning to her tried and true monochrome style and wearing British luxury labels.

The As Ever founder went for an autumnal color scheme in shades of burgundy. While outside, Markle wore a coat by Joseph, a British contemporary designer brand. Beneath the coat, Markle wore a turtleneck sweater in a similar shade from the label.

As for footwear, the “With Love, Meghan” host wore a set of pointed-toe pumps courtesy of Jennifer Chamandi. Accessories included a statement ring by Logan Hollowell, a label Markle has frequently worn during her chapter in Montecito.

It’s been more than six years since the Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties in England — and four since she made a public appearance in the U.K. for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral — but Thursday’s public engagement attire proved that she hasn’t left her royal-era style behind. Nottingham is also where Markle and Prince Harry made their first joint royal appearance in December 2017, when she wore a skirt by Joseph.

Monochrome looks aren’t anything new for the Duchess of Sussex, but during her time as a senior member of the British royal family, before she and Prince Harry stepped back from royal duties and moved to North America, the style was a key element of her wardrobe rotation.

Vibrant jewel tones as well as earthier shades created streamlined looks for the Duchess of Sussex, adding her own flair to the British royal family’s fold while maintaining some elements of her California style. Now that Markle and Prince Harry are back in England, perhaps this first outing will serve as a statement on what to expect from other public engagements in the future.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited several Nottingham organizations and charities on Thursday, including the Himmah Hub, a community organization addressing food poverty, and The Community Recording Studio (CRS), a charity that offers a wide range of creative activities, sports, mentoring and youth development programs.
