Metallics made a splash on the runways of Valentino, Fendi and Jean Paul Gaultier in 2023, so it’s no surprise that celebrities have followed suit. Shades of bronze, silver and gold also took the red carpet by storm, with stars including Julia Garner, Kendall Jenner and Shakira partaking in the flashy fad.
Ahead, WWD sees how one of couture season’s biggest trends fared at the buzziest events of the year.
Julia Garner
Garner gleamed in a bronze pleated Gucci gown, the top of which featured crystallized mesh. The actress added on a pair of champagne T-strap platforms, complementing her gown’s orange hue with a pop of colorful eye shadow.
Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner put a modern spin on Old Hollywood glamour in this Maison Margiela gown. Featuring a floor-length train, Jenner’s shiny frock was also adorned with a large bow. The makeup mogul wore her dark tresses in a sleek updo, while her makeup included a nude ombre lip.
Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner dug into the archives of Jean Paul Gaultier, selecting this gold scalloped gown from the designer’s spring 2008 haute couture collection. The supermodel’s brunette mane was styled in a messy updo and her makeup consisted of coral blush and a nude lip.
Shakira
Shakira sparkled in a gold chain-mail gown by Versace featuring side cutouts and a thigh-high slit. The singer, who was styled by Nicolas Bru, accessorized with diamond rings. Beachy waves topped off Shakira’s glamorous look.
Demi Moore
Demi Moore made a glittering entrance in a champagne Tamara Ralph gown with an oversize floral appliqué. She was styled by Brad Goreski, who also dresses stars including Kaley Cuoco, Rashida Jones and Natalia Dyer. Moore wore her long hair in tousled waves, and her makeup included a mauve lip and matching blush.
Beyoncé
Beyoncé took “Alien Superstar” to a whole new level at the Los Angeles premiere of “Renaissance,” a concert film that celebrates her latest worldwide tour. For the occasion, Beyoncé wore custom Atelier Versace. Her strapless silver gown featured Space Age flares on the Italian label’s trademark chain mail, including a geometric bodice and metallic latex opera gloves. Her hip-length, ash blond tresses seemingly nodded to Donatella Versace, the brand’s artistic director, who is known for her pin-straight platinum mane.
