Last night, the Miss Universe 2024 competition came to a close with Denmark’s Victoria Kjaer Theilvig being crowned the winner and receiving the South Sea pearl tiara from last year’s titleholder, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua. Theilvig’s win was followed by first runner-up Miss Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina and second runner-up Miss Mexico Maria Fernanda Beltran.
The top five contestants for the annual competition, held this year in Mexico City and hosted by former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, also included Miss Thailand Opal Suchata Chuangsri and Miss Venezuela Ileana Márquez. The quintet were selected from over 120 contestants from around the world.
The 73rd Miss Universe competition held a preliminary round of 30 contestants on Nov. 14 before airing the top 12 finalists on Saturday. During the preliminary round, the contestants paid homage to the cultural heritage and creativity of their homelands with the 2024 Miss Universe National Costumes show, which took place ahead of the swimsuit section.

For the swimsuit section of the competition, contestants opted for modern takes on one-pieces and two-pieces in cool blue and purple tones. They paired their swimsuits with a gold cape and metallic platform sandals, with many contestants opting to accessorize with statement earrings and some styling their looks with necklaces and bracelets. The delegates had the opportunity to make a selection from six silhouettes and colors from the official Miss Universe Organization brand. Last year, the organization entered into licensing for merchandizing across several categories, including beauty.
