With the majority of New Balance’s 1906L loafer releases thus far using neutral looks with limited pops of color, an upcoming release looks to liven up the model with a mix of shades.
The soon-to-be-released New Balance 1906L Silver Metallic/Black/Fire Cracker is somewhat deceptive with its colorway description, as there’s far more going on with the style than the three-color name would suggest. In addition to the black mesh base and metallic silver overlays with dashes of red, the look also mixes in green, blue, pink and tan shades, resulting in the most colorful combination to arrive on the 1906L silhouette yet.
The part-primary color, part-pastel aesthetic is somewhat reminiscent of designer Raf Simons’ 2010s collaborations with Adidas. Yet, despite the addition of an array of colors, the new style doesn’t stray too far from the metallic-adorned design language the 1906L has established thus far.

While it isn’t the first sneaker loafer hybrid, New Balance’s 1906L is widely credited with reviving the trend and bringing it back to the forefront of footwear. The model’s first appearance came in at Paris Fashion Week during Junya Watanabe’s fall/winter 2024 show before eventually arriving at retail during September ’24.
From there, the floodgates opened, and nearly every athletic footwear brand offered their own take on the trend in 2025. Some have debated how much longer the trend will keep momentum, but it’s clear that brands are still invested given the ongoing releases. Early signs hint at the concept reaching into other casual shoes such as derbies and moccasins.
As for this New Balance 1906L Silver Metallic/Black/Fire Cracker colorway, it’s expected to be released this month from newbalance.com and select New Balance retailers for $160. The pair has a style code of U190663V.
