A polarizing Nike concept from the 2000s is returning anew on one of the brand’s most classic sneakers.

Official Nike e-commerce product images have surfaced of a new Air Force 1 Low featuring see-through panels across an icy White/University Blue/Pure Platinum color combination. The clear portions fill in the toe box and quarter panels, while the remainder of the upper is constructed in a white tumbled leather. Beyond the transparent panels, contrast comes from a University Blue-tinted outsole and branding. Further separating the pair from standard Air Force 1 affairs is a blinged-out “AF1” dubrae, which also keeps up with the icy theme.

Longtime Swoosh fanatics may recognize a resemblance to a 2006’s “Invisible Woman” Air Force 1 Low Premium. That sneaker was released alongside four other models (the Air Max 90, Air Max 95, Air Foamposite Pro and Dunk High) as part of an unofficial pack inspired by the Marvel Comics “Fantastic Four” franchise.

The ’06 Air Force 1 was one of the most memorable pairs from the collection, using the comic’s Invisible Woman character as its muse on a Clear/Light Iris/Ice Blue colorway with even larger clear paneling. Other memorable sneakers to use the see-through material include 2004’s ESPO x Nike Air Force 2 Low and Clot’s original Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death” release, also from ’06.

Despite the similarities to the mid-2000s Invisible Woman pair, there isn’t any explicit connection between this upcoming pair and the upcoming “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” film, nor does it appear to be tied to the original ’06 iteration.

It’s worth noting that while the appearance is familiar, it looks like Nike Sportswear has made some considered adjustments to the clear paneling on the upcoming release. Rather than the plastic material which was susceptible to fogging up (or worse, sweating) when worn, the new pair appears to feature a thinner, more breathable material similar to Nike’s NextSkin TPU.

With a style code of IB5724-100, this new Nike Air Force 1 Low is set to be released exclusively in women’s sizing later this year for an expected retail price of $130.
