Washington, nominated for best supporting performance in a series, suited up in a look inspired by Roberts at the 1990 Golden Globes.
“I’m a Virgo” star Olivia Washington suited up for the Independent Spirit Awards on Sunday night.
While power suiting has been a major recent trend on the red carpet and runway, Washington took more of an archival approach. Styled by Altorrin for the ceremony, Washington donned a 1940s vintage suit, along with a Loewe tie, Sergio Rossi shoes and jewelry by Alexis Bittar and from her mother’s personal collection.
Her look was inspired by the oversize Giorgio Armani men’s suit that Julia Roberts wore for the 1990 Golden Globes, where Roberts won best supporting actress for “Steel Magnolias.” That same year, Washington’s father, Denzel Washington, took home the award for best supporting actor.
Below, Washington offers a look at her preparations for the Spirit Awards, where she was nominated for best supporting performance for a new scripted series.
