Oprah Winfrey channeled “The Color Purple” on Saturday while attending the NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles. Winfrey presented the award for Entertainer of the Year to Usher, who was recognized for his recent Las Vegas residency and Super Bowl halftime show performance.
The host, producer and author sported a beaded Prada column gown featuring a bow embellishment at the waistline. Winfrey accessorized with diamond ball drop earrings and a cocktail ring by Kwiat.
Stylist Annabelle Harron, whose other clients include Patricia Arquette and Elizabeth Debicki, dressed Winfrey for the occasion.
Hairdresser Nicole Mangrum styled Winfrey’s brunette tresses in voluminous waves, while makeup artist Derrick Rutledge gave her rosy blush and a glossy lip.
Winfrey’s “The Color Purple” received eleven NAACP Image Awards including Outstanding Motion Picture, Outstanding Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture and Outstanding Soundtrack. She served as a producer on the reboot of Steven Spielberg’s 1985 film.
“Thank you NAACP for this honor,” Winfrey wrote on Instagram. “A special shout out to my stylist @annabelleharron who has been gathering purple fabrics and designers since last April. You made it fun. To everyone who watched, sang, danced, wore your own purple, and supported us: THANK YOU! It was our offering to you all. Now off to celebrate with a large order of fries.”
The 2024 NAACP Image Awards honor the accomplishments of Black creatives in film, television and music. Queen Latifah served as emcee for the ceremony after hosting for the first time in 2023. Winners were announced prior to the show’s air date. This year’s honorees include Usher, H.E.R., Megan Thee Stallion and Ciara.
