In a dream world, I’d have the means to shop lululemon’s new arrivals section on the regular. But the reality is that the activewear brand’s gear is an investment – albeit a great one, in my opinion. For that reason, I try to hold myself to buying a few pieces a year as I see a need for them (although admittedly, I do find a few occasions to treat myself). This past year, I purchased a pair of running leggings for the NYC Marathon, but I also couldn’t resist getting my hands on the TikTok-famous belt bag to see what the hype is all about. (Spoiler alert: it’s worth it.) As much as I adore these items, I think it’s safe to say that my lululemon jacket is my favorite piece of all. If you’re browsing lululemon jackets yourself, read on to find out more about all the best styles, and what to look out for while you shop.

But first, here’s some basic info about some of the brand’s signature fabrics.

What to Know About lululemon’s Fabrics

A lululemon rep notes that lululemon jackets feature so many propriety fabrics and technologies, it’s “impossible to quantify” how many of them there are. A few you should know about to help inform your purchase include Luon, Glyde, and Ripstop.

Luon

Luon is a super stretchy, buttery soft fabric – a favorite amongst lululemon enthusiasts because it feels virtually weightless. Made from 86 percent nylon and 14 percent Lycra, it’s arguably the brand’s most popular fabric, designed for low-impact exercise and everyday wear.

Glyde

Another important fabric to know about is called “Glyde,” a water-repelling material used in several of the brand’s most popular winter running jackets. It’s engineered with three layers to keep you dry and coated in DWR (a durable water-repellent) coating, which you’ll be grateful for when it starts snowing during your run.

Ripstop

We’ll leave you with one last fabric you probably haven’t heard of before: Ripstop. This abrasion-resistant fabric is traditionally used to make men’s shorts, but we also spotted it in one of our fave new jackets of the moment. It’s lightweight, and equal parts sporty and chic.

Are lululemon Jackets Worth the Money?

Whether or not lululemon jackets are worth the money is a matter of personal opinion. The final verdict is up to your own budget, wardrobe, and workout routine. IMO, I believe that lululemon jackets are worth the money, but keep in mind that I also frequently wear activewear instead of “real” clothes, and I’ll take quality over quantity any day. But those aren’t the only reasons I love them. Despite wearing my lululemon jackets super often, they look as good as the day I bought them (no pilling, stretching, etc.). To be clear, I don’t think it would be wise to blow your month’s rent on a brand new collection of lululemon jackets, but purchasing one – with the help of our shopping recs – is more than likely an investment you won’t regret.
