“I feel like this is the Monse before the storm,” said Pamela Anderson to the room of guests inside La Mercerie on Sunday evening, who cheered back at her. Anderson was the guest of honor for Monse designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, who will be dressing her in Oscar de la Renta for the Met Gala on Monday.

The party was graced early in the evening by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. (She is rumored to be wearing de la Renta as well to the Met.) Sanchez seemed stressed as a videographer got too close to her inside the crowded restaurant, and she and Bezos left soon after.

Accompanied by far more intense security was Doja Cat, who rolled in carrying a large Starbucks cup alongside Vetements designer Guram Gvasalia. The pair have been making the rounds for photographers in New York this weekend, leading many to think Doja will wear the brand for the Met.

This year marks Anderson’s first time attending the famous event.

“I don’t really know what to expect so I think it’s better that way,” she said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing that exhibition, and the dress is amazing.”

“They’ve been sending me sketches and swatches to my little farm back in Canada, and drawings and we’ve had Zooms, and then obviously I left it in their very capable hands,” she added of her process with Kim and Garcia. “I’ve never worn anything like this in my life and I’m just so excited and honored.”

In addition to the Oscar look, Anderson will have makeup done by none other than Pat McGrath.

“We’re going to do a version of natural but a little more polished,” Anderson said. “Whatever the next [incarnation is]. I always say I don’t know what the next incarnation is, but I think she knows what she’s doing.”

Garcia thanked the room for showing up and supporting their brand 10-plus years in.

“I’ve never thrown one of these, I have a lot of anxiety. But it calms me down to see all of these familiar faces,” he said. “I hope you guys like what we do tomorrow.”
