Spring has officially sprung — at least for designers debuting their latest collections for spring 2027 this month.

Timed to the official start of New York Fashion Week, the Pantone Fashion Color Trend Report for spring was released on Thursday with 10 standout colors and five new seasonless shades. According to the Pantone Color Institute experts who curated the top 10 list, the colorways for spring 2027 will showcase hues with a sense of refinement and boldness alongside a “zest for life,” and are expected to make their way throughout upcoming shows.

Understated ease paired with outspoken hues showcase a modern outlook on color that will make its way down the runway, while challenging conventional approaches.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said the overall outlook this season is leaning toward modernism and challenging convention. And she sees this season as interesting as designers focus on elevated, seasonless pieces that extend beyond a singular season.

“[Designers are] working with a more modern outlook, a different perspective and you see it most clearly in the way that designers are putting the colors together,” she explained. “There is an energy that lightens the mood in this palette, a zest in life that comes through in shades like Rosy Future, Dragon Fire and Daiquiri Green that gives us a lift — but it is a kind of dichotomy. At the same moment we are seeing designers push individuality and unexpected color unions, and there is a demand for the seasonless staples. Both impulses are showing up on the same runways and often in the same collection.”

The report’s author noted that the colors shown are inspired by our surrounding natural environment in its simplest form, with uplifting shades reflecting youthful energy to lighten the mood. Moreover, they noted that hues for the upcoming spring 2027 are both fun and functional to showcase an interplay of boldness and a desire to be seen alongside composure and subtlety.

And given that people are more conscious about where and what they’re spending money on, Eiseman said consumers are continuing to select pieces with seasonless shades that are closet staples.

“If you’ve had this cashmere sweater for 20 years in a seasonless shade, you still rely on it and you’re bringing it out because it’s in your closet, but that same staple looks different with the trending colors of any given season.”

She continued that this year’s seasonless shades are staples with an unexpected twist. Pantone Daiquiri Green is a crisp lime paired with a camel hue or its happy pink color; Rosy Future is paired with Dolphin, its sleek and elegant gray. Eiseman pointed to Tarragon as one to watch on the list, given that consumers typically don’t associate herbal green as a staple. But season after season, green has proved to be just that, similar to its role as an essential color in nature.

“On the retail and brand [side], manufacturers and designers are paying attention to the fact that even though you can have these wonderfully wild culinary colors that are going to attract attention, you must have those staples to lean on. That is why we maintain a separate classification for the color palette for the season and the seasonless shades, to show those core colors and the staples as well. It gives a merchandiser a foundation to build the season on and a reason for the customer to come back.”

When it comes to overall cultural and societal sentiment, there’s an overwhelming need for joy amongst consumers when shopping and when selecting colors for their wardrobes.

“With social media and democratized access to information, we’ve also democratized access to inspiration. People are seeing all of these kinds of interesting trend-forward looks on social media, seeing trends on celebrities and thinking it’s really the right time to reach out and try something new. Part of that is continuous experimentation — experimentation with fashion, taking what’s out of the closet and revitalizing it by being your own stylist,” she said.

This year, Pantone also partnered with Raspberry AI this season to create a series of AI-generated materials and mood boards surrounding the featured colors.
