Perry Ellis International is heightening its focus on sports.
Just days after the company launched a collection with Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, it has now stepped up to sponsor his entire team.
On Tuesday, the Miami-based manufacturer said it will become a partner of the Dolphins, a deal that includes in-stadium signage. Perry Ellis will also become a support sponsor of the Miami Dolphins Foundation’s initiatives such as the Alumni Weekend Golf Classic and the Draft Weekend Golf Classic, key fundraising events for the team’s charitable arm.
Last week, Perry Ellis introduced the Tua x Perry Ellis collection, a line of menswear inspired by Tagovailoa’s Hawaiian heritage. The collection, which retails from $70 to $225, includes brightly colored pieces with distinctive patterns and textures meant to reference the tropics and ocean waters.
“At Perry Ellis, the ‘Always Ready’ spirit is woven into everything we do,” said Oscar Feldenkreis, president and chief executive officer of Perry Ellis International Inc. “It’s a kinship we share with the world of sports — a game-winning mindset that the Miami Dolphins exemplify. We’re thrilled to nurture this relationship with the franchise and connect with players and fans through fashion and lifestyle.
“Our partnership with the Miami Dolphins represents an exciting new chapter for Perry Ellis International. We aim to capture the essence of confidence and versatility that defines the sports community, while offering a fresh take on athlete-inspired fashion.”
This is not the first time Perry Ellis has worked with the Dolphins. In 1972, the brand dressed the players in suits and other apparel from its stable of brands at the time. The company also sponsors key professional players in golf and tennis.
