Rosalía has reimagined a hair trend of the past.
Outside the Los40 Music Awards Santander in Valencia, Spain, on Friday, the 33-year-old singer posed on the carpet, boasting a crown of blond hair around her head. The stark highlight started at her roots, just a few inches from her hairline, and wrapped around both sides of her head before joining together in the back.
Likely the work of hair artist Lorenzo Posocco, the highlight harked back to two early 2000s beauty trends that have recently resurfaced amid wider Y2K nostalgia, namely foxtail hair and calico coloring.

Modeled by Lindsay Lohan during her “Freaky Friday” era, calico hair is a tri-color technique that involves painting blond, platinum or orange stripes against a darker shade around the head. This is poised to be one of the biggest beauty trends to come out of 2025, with a 1,400 percent year-over-year increase in popularity, per Spate, a company specializing in machine intelligence for the beauty industry.
Meanwhile, foxtail hair, a gradient alternative, involves dipping dark brown or black ends in orange, red or blond coloring. Think of this as the matured version of the Kool-Aid dip-dye technique. Gregory Patterson, celebrity hairstylist and styling expert for Sally Beauty, described the foxtail trend as a “total DIY-able color moment.” He told WWD: “It’s a money-saving way to evolve your hair color.”
Rosalía’s highlight can be considered an avant-garde interpretation of both foxtail and calico hair. The “Beso” singer — who also happened to drop her latest album, “Lux,” on Friday, too — debuted the abstract aesthetic earlier in the week while promoting her new project on Instagram. However, she has yet to credit the artist behind the look. WWD has reached out to Posocco, her current stylist, for a comment.
The blond certainly accentuated the eccentricity of her fashion on the music awards red carpet, where she posed in head-to-toe Balenciaga, comprised of a black fringe crop top, a matching balloon skirt and oversize shield sunglasses with a bejeweled visor.
