The Academy Museum’s annual gala took place Sunday night in Los Angeles. The event, which seeks to raise funds for the museum, featured no shortage of stars — many of whom wore sequins.
It’s no secret that sparkling embellishments have taken runways and red carpets by storm, with labels like Armani Privé, Valentino and Fendi setting the trend for fall.
Selena Gomez, Demi Moore and Eva Longoria were among the celebrities who opted for shiny ensembles. Here, WWD highlights the best and brightest looks at this year’s Academy Museum Gala.
Selena Gomez
Gomez opted for an off-the-shoulder Valentino gown featuring sequined floral appliqués. Opera gloves and diamond Tiffany & Co. jewels completed her look, which was curated by stylist Erin Walshe. Makeup artist Marissa Marino gave Gomez smokey winged eyeliner and a coral lip, while her dark tresses were styled in a sleek bun.
Demi Moore
Moore made a glittering entrance in a champagne Tamara Ralph gown with an oversize floral appliqué. She was styled by Brad Goreski, who also dresses stars including Kaley Cuoco, Rashida Jones and Natalia Dyer. Moore wore her long hair in tousled waves, and her makeup featured a mauve lip and matching blush.
Hailey Bieber
Hailey Bieber donned a custom Saint Laurent design featuring a halter neck and sleek black sequins. Stylist Karla Welch was responsible for the Rhode founder’s sparkling ensemble, which included diamond and platinum jewelry by Tiffany & Co.
Zooey Deschanel
Zooey Deschanel selected a sequined powder blue Shushu Tong two-piece, which included a ruffled halter top and midi pencil skirt. The actress added silver accessories by Roger Vivier and jewels by Le Vian. Deschanel wore her brunette mane in a high ponytail with fringe, while dark brown eyeliner, rosy blush and a pink lip made her blue eyes pop.
Michelle Williams
Michelle Williams wore a navy Louis Vuitton gown featuring metallic fringe. She was styled by Kate Young, who is also known for dressing Julianne Moore, Scarlett Johansson and Dakota Johnson.
The night’s honorees included Meryl Streep, Michael B. Jordan, Oprah Winfrey and Sofia Coppola, and co-chairs included Ava DuVernay, Halle Berry, Ryan Murphy and Dr. Eric Esrailian. The Academy Museum Gala benefits exhibitions that celebrate outstanding achievement in cinema. The event was rescheduled due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and marked a return to red carpet glamour. The strike began in July and ended Nov. 9 after the union reached an agreement with Hollywood studios for pay equity and other protections.
