Stars are trumpeting the sheer trend, embracing see-through style statements on front rows during Paris Fashion Week for the fall 2024 season.
In recent days, designers put translucent looks on the runway at Courrèges, Saint Laurent, Giambattista Valli, Chloé and Róisín Pierce. For Chemna Kamali’s Chloé debut, she packed the collection with sheer lace dresses and tops as well as pounds of chiffon for a 1970s flair. At Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello pulled the hosiery fabric tight in minidresses, knee-length pencil skirts and pussy bow blouses. (Last month, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Paris opened an exhibit dubbed “Sheer: The Diaphanous Creations of Yves Saint Laurent.”)
This all comes on the heels of a banner year for sheer dresses on the red carpet: Rachel Brosnahan wore a black Sergio Hudson dress featuring a see-through top for the 2023 Met Gala; Emily Ratajkowski and Ciara wore sheer dresses from Feben and Dundas, respectively at Vanity Fair’s Oscars night after party; and Dua Lipa shimmered in a custom Bottega Veneta dress at the Los Angeles premiere of “Barbie.”
This week’s front rows in Paris show that the trend is very much still alive, with the likes of Zoë Kravitz, Olivia Wilde and more interpreting the look.
Olivia Wilde
Olivia Wilde made a sensual style statement for the Saint Laurent fall 2024 show. Her completely sheer top featured an open back and spaghetti straps. She paired it with a belted cargo pencil skirt, tinted aviators and matching leather gloves.
Zoë Kravitz
Zoë Kravitz wore a sheer minidress to the Saint Laurent fall 2024 show. The belted design was sleeveless and paired with a pointy-toe patent leather slingback stiletto.
Taylor Hill
Taylor Hill went with an allover print at the Balmain fall 2024 show. The former Victoria’s Secret model paired a floor-length overcoat, tailored trousers and a sheer turtleneck all covered in red lips. She also carried Balmain’s triangular “Jolie” bag in black.
Leomie Anderson
Leomie Anderson wore a little black dress featuring sheer arms and a sheer torso to the Off-White fall 2024 show. The knee-length mesh dress was paired with a pair of black and brown mules.
Kathryn Newton
Kathryn Newton opted for a black sheer top to sit front row at Chloé’s fall 2024 show. The babydoll top exposed her midriff and featured lace. It was paired with black trousers and a crescent-shaped bag.
Georgia May Jagger
Georgia May Jagger arrived to the Saint Laurent fall 2024 show in a sheer halter top with an exposed back. Jagger also donned a cargo pencil skirt, sheer tights and slingback heels.
