Pottery Barn’s holiday doormats are so merry and bright, you could even say they glow. The home retailer’s light-up doormats are back for the holiday season, shining a light for any visitors, reindeer included. The imaginative designs include a frosted gingerbread house strung with real, working Christmas lights and a festive Santa Claus dressed in a light-up hat. The luminescent details are made possible thanks to tiny LED bulbs embedded in the mat’s coir fibers. This material is also great on a functional level, wicking away any dirt or moisture as guests enter the house.
The lights don’t change in color, but they do look differently depending on the type of doormat, showing up as bright white on Santa’s suit and multicolored on the gingerbread house. Previous versions of Pottery Barn’s glowing doormats specifically lit up when stepped on, illuminating flying keys in the Harry Potter–themed collection or guiding a gaggle of adorable ghosts for Halloween. It’s unclear whether these Christmas mats will operate the exact same way, but we know they require three coin batteries and currently retail for $49.
If a light-up gingerbread house seems especially whimsical for the holidays, it might be because these mats are sold exclusively through Pottery Barn Kids. Still, given the sugary sweet gingerbread decor already making its rounds on social media, this holiday season is definitely inspiring us to let our inner child run free.
