Stone Island and New Balance are returning to a concept featuring an overabundance of suede in monochrome.
The second Stone Island x New Balance 574 “Ghost” collection will release in March in three colorways: “Ardesia Blue,” “Corteccia Beige” and “Polvere Grey.” Each of the three variants employ suede not only throughout their uppers, but also as a wrap around their midsoles. Padding added to the tongue, collar and additional spots in the upper provide a higher level of comfort than the 574’s usual build, and stitch-and-turn construction eliminates all overlapping seams while reinforcing the padded look.
Branding for the Italian materials specialist arrives through a compass logo tongue patch and debossed “Stone Island Product Research” text. A brushed “N” logo provides textural contrast along with a mustache with the same finish and ridged laces.

Seen as the quintessential New Balance shoe and designed by Steven Smith, the 574 was introduced in 1988 as a more affordable hybrid of the 575 and 576 running shoes. The Encap encapsulated midsole wasn’t incorporated until roughly two years later, and the versions of the sneaker that dropped in the U.S., Japan and Europe were all distinct — setting collectors on a chase for completion.
Stone Island turned to the 574 for its first New Balance lifestyle sneaker in 2023, following running shoes and soccer cleats, and revisited the silhouette again last year with the “Ghost” theme.
The Stone Island x New Balance 574 “Ghost” collection’s “Ardesia Blue,” “Corteccia Beige” and “Polvere Grey” colorways will release March 11 through Stone Island’s website and select stores. Pricing for each is set at $220.
