Though the “Barbie” movie has come and gone, its impact on pop culture continues to stand the test of time. From pink becoming the color of summer 2023 to fans obsessing over Margot Robbie’s beauty secrets from the movie, it’s no wonder that when beauty journalist Kirbie Johnson had to prepare for a big red carpet gig, she opted for a “Barbie” facial from aesthetician Jasmina Vico, who worked on the film’s cast.
The Barbie facial, also known as the Vico Elevate, is a treatment that the skin expert uses to get her clients ready for important events. It combines facial massage and microcurrent to leave your face looking glistening and lifted – much like the original Mattel toy.
“It was designed with a focus on sculpting and toning the face,” Vico tells POPSUGAR. As the “Barbie” movie’s resident facialist, she created bespoke protocols for stars like Robbie, America Ferrera, and Mette Towley to keep their skin looking its best. These types of toning and perfecting treatments have become wildly popular over the last few years. Ahead, Vico explains exactly what this particular facial entails so that you can get “Barbie”-like skin, too.
What Is the Vico Elevate Facial?
“One key part of this technique is my signature lymphatic drainage technique to get rid of excess fluid, detox the lymph, and oxygenate the skin,” Vico says. “It’s particularly great for any clients that have been traveling.”
Vico follows the lymph massage with a combination of buccal massages and a temporomandibular joint (or TMJ) release. “This is because some muscles need lifting while others need relaxing; that tension from them being overworked can show up in your facial structure.”
The final step of the procedure is an electro-muscle stimulation and radiofrequency skin tightening. “The combination lifts the facial muscles and defines the cheek and jawline,” she says. To compound that enviable glow, Vico finishes with the Vico Skin Screen Star Serum ($133), which she says will have you looking like “you’ve never missed a full night’s sleep and are lifted, energized, and illuminated.”
How Much Does the Vico Elevate Facial Cost?
Vico can typically be found in her London-based studio, but whether you take a trip across the pond or happen to run into her while she’s working in the States, expect to see her a few times to get Margot Robbie-type results.
“Six treatments minimum are recommended to get the full effect,” Vico says. The facial is 40 minutes long and will typically run you about £225 or $285. Now that you’re in on the secret, your one-way ticket to Barbieland awaits.
