If you’ve seen plush, cozy-looking sofas all over your Instagram feed, you’re not alone – they’re everywhere. The trend originates from Restoration Hardware, the first brand to unveil the cloud-like silhouette that’s a favorite among Hollywood A-listers and interior aficionados alike. As you might guess, the RH design is as expensive as it is popular (read: very), which is just one of the reasons why there are many other options on the market. “A proper cloud sofa must have the exact characteristics of a cloud, meaning fabrics in the white color family, soft and plush cushions, and an unapologetic sculptural rounded frame,” Devin Shaffer, lead interior designer at Decorilla, tells POPSUGAR. Whether or not you want a cloud sofa comes down to personal preference. Lucky for you, there are lots of options to choose from to guide your search – and we’ve compiled 10 of the best ones. But before we get to our favorites, let’s start with Shaffer’s expert insight.

What to Look For When Buying a Cloud Couch

Shaffer recommends considering a few key items before buying a cloud couch. First, if you choose to search beyond our curated list of favorites, he recommends avoiding the term “cloud” when doing a Google search. “Simply search ‘white sofa’ or ’round sofa,’ and you’ll find numerous options around $1,000. Just be sure to keep a tab open with the dreamy $10K plus cloud sofas to ensure you’re getting the right design characteristics,” he says.

When you think you’ve found the perfect silhouette, check out its materials and care recommendations. Unless you won’t actually be sitting on the couch, Shaffer recommends looking at “synthetic fibers such as polyester, reversible cushions, and/or slipcover options to avoid permanent stains and noticeable wear and tear.” After all, “humans by and large are messy,” so you may as well prevent bringing in professional cleaners if you can avoid it.

And finally, before you add it to your cart, it’s important to triple check measurements because “cloud sofas are bulkier than you’d expect,” warns the expert. “I love to tape off the area (footprint) of a piece of furniture based on the measurements provided by the store and try to live with that cleared-out space for a week or two to understand the impact a new piece of furniture would have.”
