There’s no better versatility than a sex toy that can go from the bedroom to the shower with ease. And let’s be honest, waterproof sex toys are elite for this very reason. Unfortunately though, not all sex toys are waterproof.

To find out whether or not your sex toy is waterproof, all you have to do is look at the box or the sex-toy description on the website. However, Charlotte Johnson, a sex expert at Mega Pleasure, notes that there’s a difference between a sex toy being fully waterproof and a sex toy that can withstand a few splashes of water. “Waterproof toys can be fully submerged in water without any damage, while water-resistant toys can withstand some exposure to water but may not be fully submersible,” Johnson says.

For this reason, when it comes to submersible toys, you want to be wary of the depth that the toy can handle. Some toys clearly say on their packaging that they can only be submerged up to a few inches, while others do not have a limit, making them great for shower sex or pool play.

Another thing to note is while you may have found a waterproof sex toy, you shouldn’t use it in oceans or lakes. “Waterproof sex toys should not be used in saltwater like the ocean as it will cause harm to any metal on the exterior of the sex toys,” clinical psychologist Lisa Lawless, PhD, says. “Fresh lakes and rivers may not cause damage to the sex toy but may introduce harmful bacteria into the urethra during sexual play, which can cause a urinary tract infection (UTI).”

Lastly, as much as sex-toy use in the water can enhance your sexual experience, waterproof sex toys aren’t always the best functioning. “Consider the desired functionality of the toy,” Johnson says. “Make sure the waterproof feature doesn’t compromise the toy’s intended purpose or performance. Some toys may have limited vibration strength [in the water].” In other words, just because it’s waterproof doesn’t mean it’s going to deliver the same ecstasy as it does when you’re using it on dry land.

That said, if you’re thinking you want to get in on this waterproof sex-toy action, here are the best waterproof sex toys, according to sex experts.
