Palais-Royal, the majestic, leafy 17th-century square in central Paris, has long been home to art galleries, vintage clothiers, cafés and restaurants. Now, nestled among its arched passageways, are a number of tony beauty haunts, too. Sophie Carbonari Studio for facials, Augustinus Bader for skin and hair care, and Marisol Paris for hairdressing are among them. Nearby, Kure Bazaar Paris and La Bonne Brosse have recently opened.

Built by Richelieu in 1628, Palais-Royal has a storied past. King Louis XIII inherited it, and Louis XIV grew up there in part. Camille Desmoulin’s incendiary speech given there in 1789 set off the storming of the Bastille. Famed writer Colette lived there, as well, and today the Comédie-Française theater decks its main entry.
