I’m a fragrance lover. Whether it’s a new perfume, essential oil, or scented candle, I thoroughly enjoy the journey that a good fragrance can take you on. As such, I am 100 percent one of those people who believe in the benefits of aromatherapy. At any given moment, you can find a candle or diffuser going in my home and eucalyptus or lavender hand lotion in my bag for on-the-go moisture and stress relief.
That being said, it should come as no surprise to you that when Rare Beauty came out with its Find Comfort Stop & Soothe Aromatherapy Pen ($20), I was immediately intrigued. The brand describes it as a fast-absorbing gel with a peppermint and lavender scent to help you relax and refresh the senses on the spot. As someone who is constantly on the go, the convenience of an aromatherapy experience that I can tuck into my purse when I’m rushing out the door is very appealing. If I can have a mindful moment using a product that fits into the palm of my hand, I’m going to take it. Read ahead for my full review.

What I Like About the Rare Beauty Find Comfort Stop & Soothe Aromatherapy Pen
I’m already pretty familiar with the aromatherapy benefits of lavender and peppermint. However, the addition of tonka bean to this scent profile caught me a bit off guard in the best way. The two aforementioned scents by themselves can err on the side of smelling a bit like menthol, which is what makes them so invigorating and great at clearing your headspace. The tonka bean note adds a bit of creaminess to the gel that rounds out the scent. It isn’t as overt as I thought it would be, but it does become more apparent when it dries down. The gel ends up smelling like freshly-applied vanilla lotion on the skin after a few minutes.
How to Use the Rare Beauty Find Comfort Stop & Soothe Aromatherapy Pen
The brand directs users to apply the gel onto the temples, back of the neck, behind the ears, and onto the wrists, but I prefer a different method. I dispense the gel into my hands, rub them together, and take a few very deep breaths. If I can, I also practice square breathing, a technique that prompts you to inhale, hold, and exhale your breaths while counting down from a predetermined number. No matter what headspace I’m in, this exercise, coupled with the intoxicating scent of the aromatherapy pen, never seizes to help me drop my shoulders and calm my racing thoughts – even if just a bit. It’s an incredibly soothing ritual.
What to Consider About the Rare Beauty Find Comfort Stop & Soothe Aromatherapy Pen
The only thing I would flag about this pen is that the clicker on the bottom can be a bit finicky to work with. There is a pre-cut area on the bottom of the pen where you press down, but this means that you have to hold the product a certain way. On one hand, it brings you back to the present, forcing you to focus on the task that you are trying to accomplish, but on the other, it’s a bit annoying when you have to constantly change the positioning of the pen in your hand until it’s just right.
