This holiday season, The Royal Poinciana Plaza will continue its tradition of transforming artistry into a celebration with the unveiling of its 2025 Surfboard Tree, designed by Loewe.

The Spanish luxury house brings its legacy of art and craft to Palm Beach, reinterpreting its holidays collection through a playful three-dimensional installation inspired by British artist Louis Wain (1860-1939), widely known as “The Man Who Drew Cats.”

For the past eight years, The Royal’s Surfboard Tree has marked the start of the Palm Beach holiday season. Previous designers of the Surfboard Tree have included Assouline, Thom Browne, Iris Apfel and Johnson Hartig of Libertine. This year, Loewe continues that tradition with a joyful nod to Wain’s whimsical world of feline characters.

The artist’s quirky universe serves as the inspiration for an animated capsule that blends Wain’s vision with Loewe’s meticulous craft in a selection of bags, small leather goods, accessories and ready-to-wear. Playful cat-shaped clutches are inspired by the original ceramics, while other pieces deconstruct them — a cat’s face, paws or striped motifs, re-imagined across signature Loewe forms. Elsewhere, an allover pattern brings multiple characters together, offering a broader take on Wain’s world. Techniques such as intarsia, embroidery and print highlight both Wain’s experimental spirit and Loewe’s artisanal craft.

“Stepping inside the world of Loewe is stepping inside a world of joy, fun and adventure,” said Samantha David, president of WS Development, “which is exactly why it feels so at home at the Royal. It’s playful, it’s bold, and it captures the creative, curious side of our beloved island. The Surfboard Tree brings the spirit of Palm Beach to life, and we love sharing it with our community.”

Earlier this year, Loewe opened a new store within the Royal Poinciana Plaza Playhouse, offering women’s ready-to-wear, bags, shoes, small leather goods, soft accessories and eyewear.

The Royal will unveil the Loewe Surfboard Tree during its annual Holiday Reveal on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The tree will remain on display until Jan. 4.
