The Ten Most Popular Women’s Fragrances in the U.S. vs. France, Per Statista

As the prestige fragrance market continues to boom, long-loved classics in the category are also seeing sustained growth.

According to Circana, prestige fragrance dollar sales grew 12 percent during the holiday period. While Google searches for women’s fragrances vary in the French versus U.S. markets, Statista found that heritage brands and their flagship offerings — Chanel’s Chance Eau de Parfum, for example — are especially prevalent in both.

“Luxury perfumes remain popular for both French and U.S. consumers,” said Dominique Petruzzi, editorial researcher at Statista, adding that “in the U.S., homegrown brands like Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren take precedence.”

French consumers, too, are inclined toward certain domestic favorites — Lolita Lempicka’s signature fruity gourmand scent, for example, has once again gained prominence following its relaunch in 2020, and French luxury house Cerruti 1881’s eponymous floral scent, too, continues to dominate.

The early-2000s favorite, Pink Sugar by Aquolina, has retained its cult status in France and even gained niche traction on TikTok in 2023 thanks to a slew of reviews, with the #AquolinaPinkSugar hashtag reaching 5.1 million views on the platform.

In 2024, Petruzzi said, “We anticipate vanilla and gourmand to be at the top of many consumers’ lists, alongside fresh fragrances.”
