Years ago, after seriously struggling with acne, I started getting regular facials, and after our first appointment, my esthetician asked me to bring in all my products so she could better understand what might be causing my blemishes. She taught me two incredibly important things: when it comes to skin care, less is more, and my cleanser was breaking me out. Ever since then, I’ve been incredibly discerning about my cleansers. I need something that’s gentle enough not to cause breakouts but potent enough to remove my makeup, and I finally found it in the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm ($36).

Plus, the makeup remover is also Chappell Roan approved. The singer recently shared her “get unready” routine in an Instagram video posted by Sephora. One of the key players? Yep, you guessed it. “My makeup has overstayed her welcome and the white foundation needs to come off,” Roan says in the video. She also notes that both she and her band use the Farmacy Cleansing Balm to remove full glam while on tour.

If it’s good enough for Chappell, it’s good enough for me – but keep scrolling to read my full review.

What I Like About the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

Now, cleansing balms are usually everything I used to avoid in a cleanser. They are thick and normally leave a film-like feeling on my skin that’s not ideal. This one, though, is different. It strikes the delicate balance of powerful yet gentle, and I can always rely on it to take off my makeup after a long day. It removes just about anything without that tight residue. I’m talking waterproof mascara and heavy-duty foundation, all gone. Plus, and this is worth repeating, it doesn’t break me out but rather leaves my face feeling soft and clean. I have never found such a potent cleanser that my skin could handle, and I’m never letting this one go.

How to Use the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

The brand recommends using the included spatula to scoop out the product and apply it directly to dry skin. From there, massage it into the skin or apply to closed eyes to remove eye makeup. To remove the balm, either rinse with warm water or use a damp washcloth to wipe excess product from the skin.

Typically, I start out with this cleansing balm, rinse it off with warm water, and then follow up with a gentle or a foaming cleanser.

What to Consider Before Trying the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

One thing to consider before testing this cleansing balm is that you’ll likely need a second cleanser to pair with it unless you opt to use a washcloth when removing the balm. It does a great job of removing dirt, makeup, and oil. However, the balm does stick to the skin and, in my experience, doesn’t come off with just warm water alone.
