Just in time for Earth Day, Ugg and Chinese designer Shuting Qiu have joined forces to launch a capsule collection inspired by the ocean and its inhabitants.

Qiu, a graduate of the Royal Academy in Antwerp, is known for her feminine expressions through the clash of colors and prints. The Shanghai-based designer recently launched a collaboration with Estée Lauder and curated an afternoon tea set for The Middle House, a luxury hotel under Swire Properties.

Her new capsule collection includes two pairs of platform slides and a printed T-shirt that highlight Shuting Qiu‘s signature vibrant hues and colors.

As spinoffs of Ugg’s new Goldenstar collection, the Hi Slide feature traditional embroidery showcasing island flora and fauna, while the Hi Slingback slides mix Ugg’s iconic chestnut with Qiu’s pink check pattern and fluorescent green touches. Prices for the footwear ranges from 1499 renminbi, or $207, to 1699 renminbi, or $234.

The chunky sandal, adorned with wiggly pink starfish and flower motifs, was inspired by Qiu’s spring trip to the Spanish island of Tenerife. The vibrant colors and lively patterns reflect the island’s natural beauty and Qiu’s passion for design.

“Seeing the blue sky and the flowers blooming passionately and the plants growing in the wild in Tenerife, it was intoxicating to experience so much passion in nature,” Qiu said of her experience on the island.

“With these bright and vibrant color palettes, I want to bring people a beautiful summer full of freedom and joy,” she added.

The capsule collection, which is set to launch in the mainland China market this Friday, will be available on Ugg retail channels, including brick-and-mortar outlets and Tmall, as well as selected multi-brand retailers. For Qiu’s followers abroad, the sandals will be made available on Qiu’s own online storefront, including Shuting-qiu.com, WeChat Mini Program and Xiaohongshu.

Qiu’s first capsule collection with Ugg launched last February. It featured faux fur encircling Ugg’s platform boots.

To coincide with the launch this Friday, Qiu and Ugg will host a series of upcycling workshops at Ugg’s flagship store in Shanghai.
