Of all the bizarre beauty practices that celebrities have touted (like Kim Kardashian‘s vampire facial era), Chelsea Handler‘s shower routine takes the cake. On Feb. 5, the television host appeared on Alex Cooper’s podcast, “Call Her Daddy,” and candidly talked about her peculiar habit. For some time, it’s become public knowledge that Handler only cleans her “hotspots” when showering – her vagina, butt, and underarms.
“I don’t know why my legs would be dirty, they’re covered up all day in my jeans,” she said. Handler further explained that the lather from shampooing and conditioning her hair drips down her body, offering justification as to why she doesn’t take a complete shower. Cooper agreed, adding, “I have no reason to wash my kneecaps.” Is anyone else scratching their head? Am I the only one who fully bathes anymore?
Apparently, this is a thing in Hollywood, as the comedian and podcast host aren’t the only ones taking a minimal approach to bathing. During an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2019, Taylor Swift shared that she also doesn’t wash her legs in the shower (at least not in the way we’d think). “I do because when you shave your legs, the shaving cream is like soap, right?” she said after DeGeneres asked if she washed her legs.
To add to the list, stars like Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Kristen Bell also don’t prioritize full bathing. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Gyllenhaal made mention of his bathing ritual (or lack thereof). “More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times,” he said. But wait, it gets better. Kunis and Kutcher appeared on Dax Shepard and Monica Padman’s podcast, “Armchair Expert,” and talked about their unique showering habits. “I don’t wash my body with soap every day,” Kunis said. “But I wash pits and tits and holes and soles.” Kutcher added: “I wash my armpits and my crotch daily, and nothing else ever.” Bell publicly expressed her support of the couple’s hygiene beliefs during an episode of The View, stating, “I’m a big fan of waiting for the stink. Once you catch a whiff, that’s biology’s way of letting you know you need to clean it up.”
Does anyone else find this to be, well, gross? Where are the stars who shower daily and wash their entire bodies? Yes, experts say how often you should shower (or shouldn’t, I guess) depends on a variety of factors but when in doubt, you probably should shower.
