There’s truly nothing more annoying than a flaky, itchy scalp. Most solutions on the market are either an in-shower treatment, like dandruff shampoo, a pre-wash treatment, like hair oiling, or a pre-wash mask. But there aren’t many options for providing the necessary scalp relief post-wash, preventing flakes and irritation. Thankfully, Aavrani created the perfect solution so I no longer have to wait for a wash day for scalp relief.
The Ayurvedic-inspired brand recently came out with a hair care line in partnership with Lilly Singh, available exclusively at Sephora. I’m already a big fan of the Healing Rose Clay Mask for breakouts, and “RHONY” cast member Jessel Taank considers the brand’s editor-backed Moisturizing Hydra-Cream one of her must haves, so I had high hopes for the hair care products, too. The Anti-Dandruff Dry Scalp Rescue Serum ($42) is the one product in the hair care line that immediately piqued my interest. It’s a lightweight scalp serum that’s supposed to help reduce the appearance of flakes while soothing itchiness and providing relief from overall irritation and inflammation in the area.
As someone with a troubled scalp, specifically one that feels excessively dry and oily at the same time, I was eager to put the Aavrani Anti-Dandruff Dry Scalp Rescue Serum to the test.

What I Like About the Aavrani Anti-Dandruff Dry Scalp Rescue Serum
The Aavrani Anti-Dandruff Dry Scalp Rescue Serum has been a game-changer for my scalp and has even impacted my entire hair care routine. Within a few minutes of massaging the serum into my scalp, the flakes practically diminish, and I instantly feel relief from the uncomfortable itchy sensation. Given the scalp serum hero ingredients, including salicylic acid, neem, and colloidal oatmeal, I expected the product to be somewhat effective, but I didn’t anticipate how fast-acting it would be. The serum has a slightly minty, refreshing scent, which I think helps deliver that cooling, soothing feel.
You might think that a scalp serum would make the roots look and feel more oily, but thanks to the Dry Scalp Rescue Serum’s lightweight texture, the formula absorbs into my scalp immediately. Whether it’s freshly washed hair or second-day hair, all I have to do is apply a few drops of the serum to my problem areas, massage it in, and watch the magic happen. It’s so effective that I usually only need to use it on freshly washed hair rather than daily, and it still makes a long-lasting impact. As shown in the picture above, I have visible flakes in my third-day hair, but no flakes whatsoever after employing the Dry Scalp Rescue Serum.
Because of the Aavrani Anti-Dandruff Dry Scalp Rescue Serum, my scalp is more balanced, flake-free, and irritation-free. I can now maintain a more sporadic wash cycle routine instead of washing my hair every other day to relieve my scalp. It’s also helped me wean off harsher dandruff treatments that were stripping my hair of its natural moisture.
How to Use the Aavrani Anti-Dandruff Dry Scalp Rescue Serum
The Anti-Dandruff Dry Scalp Rescue Serum can be used on a damp scalp right after you wash your hair or on a dry scalp. It has a convenient nozzle tip that you twist open to squeeze the product out. You can apply the formula directly onto your scalp, concentrating on problem areas. I like to work in sections, dotting the serum on my scalp along my part lines, then massaging it all in.
You can use this serum every day if needed. Because my scalp is dry and flaky, I like to apply this serum all over my scalp after I wash and blow dry my hair. Doing this helps regulate my scalp from the get-go. However, if minor irritation or flakes become noticeable in the days following, I simply spot-treat the areas with a few more dots of serum.
What to Consider Before Trying the Aavrani Anti-Dandruff Dry Scalp Rescue Serum
Although the serum absorbs into the scalp as soon as you massage it in, if you put too much of it on, the formula can make your scalp look oily or like third-day hair. To prevent this, use only a little bit of serum at a time and concentrate it in problem areas specifically. Be sure to massage it into your scalp before evaluating if you need more. If your roots still feel a little damp after a few minutes, you can do a quick blow-dry to remove some of the moisture and add back volume.
