CASE CLOSED: Zara keeps releasing a steady stream of surprising collaborations, now tapping contemporary German fashion brand Closed to downsize its cool, geometric jeans for kids.
This marks only the second time the Hamburg-based firm, rooted in denim, has applied its expertise in washes and fits for children. For Zara Kids, the target is girls ages 6 to 14.
“We wanted to create a collection that feels fresh and fun while staying true to our commitment to quality and craftsmanship,” Closed co-chief executive officer Gordon Giers, told WWD. “Each piece is thoughtfully designed to be comfortable, versatile and made to last.”
Its X-pocket jeans, invented in 1981, remains the star product and it appears in the range with its signature fly label.

Closed was founded in 1978 by Marithé and François Girbaud. The French designers sold the company out of bankruptcy in the early ’90s to two Hamburg-based businessmen — Günther Giers and Hans Leplow. In 2001, the company was taken over by Giers’ son Gordon and his high school chums Til Nadler and Hans Redlefsen. The three are co-CEOs.
While hinged on denim and casual sportswear for women and men, Closed also makes footwear and accessories.
