Fashion makes for great eye candy on film and TV, whether it’s a storytelling vehicle as seen in the TV hit “Emily in Paris,” a documentary take like this year’s “High & Low: John Galliano” or just window dressing, as seen in “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.”
Coming this fall 2024 is a new set of anticipated releases. Here are the top four standouts. There’s something for everyone:
A Stylish Sequel With Mucho Merch: “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”
Coming Sept. 6
Visionary director Tim Burton reunites with Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder for the cleverly titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” A sequel to the beloved dark comedy, first released in 1988, has been long-awaited. All sorts of collaborations are being released by Warner Bros. Pictures in celebration of the film’s aesthetic, including a six-piece clothing capsule with Rodarte at Saks Fifth Avenue, a Faberge jewelry line and a limited-edition beauty collection with NYX Professional Makeup. (The original film won Best Makeup at the 61st Oscars.)
Keaton resumes his role as the titular mischief-maker, Ryder is Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara is also back as Ryder’s stepmother, Delia Deetz. Some new faces have joined, including rising star Jenna Ortega (also in Burton’s “Wednesday”), who plays Ryder’s daughter, Astrid; Justin Theroux; Arthur Conti; Willem Dafoe, and Burton’s partner, Monica Bellucci. The plot centers around Astrid (Ortega), a rebellious teen who accidentally opens “the portal to the afterlife.”

Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, who frequently collaborates with Burton and has worked on “Alice in Wonderland” and “Edward Scissorhands” among other projects, created the wardrobe for the film — a lineup of gothic ensembles that’s sure to keep the black-and-white fashion color trend going. Atwood has also collaborated with Primark on a collection inspired by the film, including Beetlejuice’s iconic black-and-white suit and an updated take on the red wedding dress from Lydia Deetz’s pasts.
“Succession,” but Make It Fashion: “La Maison”
Coming Sept. 20
Set in Paris and following rival families working in luxury fashion, “La Maison” on Apple TV+ promises to plenty of drama and style, showcasing the industry’s glamorous and competitive world. Coming out Sept. 20 will be the first two episodes, followed by one episode weekly every Friday. The French-language production brings together an ensemble that includes Lambert Wilson, Amira Casar, Carole Bouquet, Zita Hanrot, Pierre Deladonchamps, Antoine Reinartz, Anne Consigny, Florence Loiret Caille and Ji-Min Park.
An Emotional Biopic With a Model Twist: “Lee”

Elizabeth “Lee” Miller’s unique story is coming to U.S. theaters Sept. 27. Starring Kate Winslet as the American photojournalist, “Lee” chronicles her life from fashion model in New York City in the 1920s to photographer capturing World War II imagery for British Vogue (following the Allied forces into Germany). One of Miller’s most well-known photographs is of herself in Adolph Hitler’s bathtub taken (with the help of fellow photographer David E. Scherman, played by Andy Samberg) on April 30, 1945, the day the Nazi dictator committed suicide. His portrait is in the background of the shot, with Miller’s muddy boots seen on his bathmat.
Directed by Ellen Kuras, “Lee” first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of last year. Winslet, also a producer on the project, is joined by an all-star cast that also includes Marion Cotillard, Alexander Skarsgård, Andrea Riseborough, Noémie Merlant and Josh O’Connor.
A Fantasy Friendship With Pop Star Power: “Wicked”

Costume designer Paul Tazewell is behind the bold looks of “Wicked,” the American stage musical coming to the big screen starring actress-singer Cynthia Erivo and pop star Ariana Grande as witches Elphaba and Glinda, the most unlikely of friends. They are joined by actors Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater and many more. Tazewell has made a name for himself working on “West Side Story” and “Harriet,” as well as on Broadway on “Hamilton” and “The Color Purple.”
Releasing in theaters Nov. 22, directed by Jon M. Chu and written by playwright and screenwriter Winnie Holzman, “Wicked” is part one of the two part film adaptation of the famed musical by Holzman and composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz. The latter is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” — which takes inspiration from L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”
