The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, first awarded in 1998, recognizes individuals who’ve made a significant impact on American culture. The prize is named after 19th-century novelist and essayist Mark Twain, whose real name was Samuel Clemens. This year, Kevin Hart received the prestigious honor. Past honorees include Richard Pryor, David Letterman and Lily Tomlin, among others.
