After a long, hectic day, a hot shower is my ideal way to wind down before bed. There’s nothing better than taking an everything shower complete with a good body scrub, then slathering on body lotion and slipping into one of my most comfortable robes.
The one part of my nightly routine that wasn’t fully upgraded? My bath towels. I’d been using the same basic, terry-cloth towels for years, and it was starting to show. It was high time for a towel refresh, so when I got the chance to review the Kassatex Alvaro Bath Towels in Bone/Raven ($60), I was thrilled. Keep reading for my detailed review of the interior designer–created towels.
What’s the Criteria for a Good Bath Towel?
You’re going to use a bath towel every single day – likely more than once – so high absorbency is key. Ideally, I want my bath towels to be soft enough that they’re gentle on my skin, but also able to soak up water nearly instantly. And as someone who lives with a small, New York City apartment bathroom with no windows, I also look for towels that dry quickly, even in humid environments. Oh, and bath towels need to be machine washable – I’m not giving my towels special treatment in the laundry.
What I Like About Kassatex Alvaro Towels
As soon as I sliced open the shipping box, the quality of the Kassatex Alvaro Towels was apparent. Designed in collaboration with interior designer Alfredo Paredes, the Alvaro towels were inspired by Japanese shoji screens and intended to add a sophisticated finishing touch to any bathroom. The eight-ply cotton towels are textured with thin ridges, but still feel soft – although they’re not fluffy like typical terry towels. I also appreciate the built-in hanging loop.
I opted for the neutral Bone/Raven color, but all three hues that the Alvaro Bath Towels come in are also gorgeous. The slim stripes add some visual interest, but the towels still look sleek and understated.
I was even more impressed with these towels after I dried off with them for the first time after my next shower. For something so lightweight, the towel soaked up any lingering moisture right away – even leaving my hair much less wet than a standard towel. Best of all, the towels themselves dried quite quickly after I hung them back up in the bathroom, so there was little risk of running into a still-damp towel the next time I needed to use it.
What to Consider Before Trying Kassatex Alvaro Towels
These aren’t plush, terry-cloth towels, so if you’re looking for the fluffiest possible post-shower experience, these might not be for you. Additionally, like many towels on the market, the Kassatex Alvaro bath towels can be stained by skincare products containing benzoyl peroxide. If you regularly use acne-fighting face washes or moisturizers with that ingredient, you might want to opt for a plain white towel instead.
Who Kassatex Alvaro Towels Are Best For
I would recommend the Alvaro bath towels for anyone wanting a more upscale bathing experience. These towels feel like they belong in a high-end boutique hotel or aesthetically pleasing spa, which makes just about any shower or bath at home feel luxurious.
Are Kassatex Alvaro Towels Worth the Splurge?
At $60 for a full-size bath towel, $25 for a hand towel, and $15 for a washcloth, the Kassatex Alvaro Bath Towels are a higher price point than many other towels on the market. That said, I think the high-quality materials, sophisticated design, and top-notch performance justify the price.
