Name drop Sandy Liang and you’ll inspire visuals of playful, feminine, nostalgia-laced essentials that dozens of downtown denizens are probably wearing at this very moment. Say the brand Gap, and similar associations with modern-Americana style might arise: all rooted in timeless silhouettes and the kind of cool-cat energy Zac Posen, Gap’s creative director, was able to treat the brand to after his appointment in February 2024.
Now, fans of both are in for a surprise, as the Gap x Sandy Liang collection just went live and is bursting at the seams with everyday staples that are given new life through whimsical touches (brand copy calls them “a celebration of modern girlhood”). Crazily enough, many of the most anticipated styles — like the Poplin Oversized Shirt in blue and pink, as well as the Low Rise ‘90s Loose Carpenter Jeans — are already out of stock, so it’s safe to say there’s absolutely no time to waste if you want to dress from head to toe in Gap x Sandy Liang this fall, successfully honoring your inner child.
What’s in store here (and still in stock)? The Vegan Leather Sherpa Jacket that’s gloriously reversible, meaning you’ll be able to channel both plush-teddy-bear and leather-clad It-girl energy without having to buy two separate outerwear pieces. If donning the jacket leather side up, pops of sherpa fuzziness will still be yours to enjoy, as the coat’s patch pockets are artfully topped by the material.

Wishing to ace the preppy-chic aesthetic all the influencers are co-signing this season? Go with the Pleated Denim Mini Skirt, whose 100-percent regenerative cotton is not only good for the planet but will be able to play off your button-ups, cardigans, and even sweatshirts marvelously well. In case you were tempted to assume this is “just another denim skirt,” think again — as the item’s co-branded patch at the back features a coquettish bow illustration harkening back to Sandy Liang’s femme-forward ethos.
And should you be on the market for some accessories that will be instantly recognized on city streets, the Small Clear Tote Bag is here for the taking: boasting star graphics, a transparent composition, and enough space to hold everything from your weekend grocery acquisitions to the collection’s CashSoft Crop Sweater, with its cashmere-like underhand smoothness, puff sleeves, and Mary Jane shoe design at center.
For 34-year-old designer Sandy Liang, a native New Yorker who launched her eponymous label in 2014, this partnership with Gap couldn’t be more personal. Indeed, it’s inspired by her own childhood growing up with the brand, to the point of a marquee video in the campaign capturing her father’s Cantonese restaurant on the Lower East Side, Congee Village, in animated form.
“Growing up, Gap was the pinnacle of fashion. It’s incredible that I get to co-create with such an
iconic brand that I treasured so much as a child, yet is still so relevant today,” Liang said in a press release. “I wanted to take the pieces that meant something to me as a kid and reimagine them through my lens today — celebrating girlhood in all its forms, while honoring the styles that make Gap so timeless.”
Weren’t lucky enough to score your most coveted styles before they ran out of inventory? Mark your calendar for October 11, which is when Gap is promising a restock. For now, though, here’s everything our editors have already added to cart — so as to start off autumn on the trendiest and most playful foot possible.
