Congratulations are in order for Stephanie Suberville, who is now officially an employee at her own company — who knew you couldn’t be? In March, the Heirlome founder left her role as creative director at Argent so she could devote herself more fully to the growing business she founded in 2022.
During a resort preview, Suberville described this new chapter of her career like a snake shedding its skin. Of course, serpents were already top of mind given Heirlome’s collaborator du jour, Michoacán potter Luis Manuel Morales Gámez, chose them to feature in his placement prints.
According to Suberville, snakes have dual meaning: In English-speaking countries, they’re a harbinger of evil, but in Spanish ones, “they’re like the opposite. It’s all positive things.”

This idea of rebirth led her to transform Heirlome’s core fabrics. Double-faced satin, for example, was cut into strips that wound around the body like a cobra forming skirts and tops, while an abundance of cream-colored georgette was scrunched into a tent gown with ruching resembling a theater curtain.
For the first time, Suberville enlisted the help of a stylist, Max Ortega, who she said will return in September when the curtain goes up on Heirlome’s debut runway show. All positive things indeed.
