Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway did complementary coords in black and white dresses for the New York City premiere of “Verity” held at the AMC Lincoln Square 13 on Tuesday night.

Kicking off the red — in this case black — carpet, Johnson turned to award-winning stylist Kate Young for her look: a shimmering Calvin Klein number complete with a bandeau bra top and thin straps with a coordinated maxiskirt with a thigh-high slit.

Both pieces from the look featured a bevy of sparkle and shine, thanks in no small part to the glittering tassels embellishing the bandeau and the maxiskirt. While giving the look an extra dose of shimmer, they also gave the dress plenty of movement.

The shimmer of the dress was complemented by Johnson’s jewelry pieces, which included earrings, a ring and necklace courtesy of Roberto Coin, for whom Johnson serves as a global brand ambassador. Johnson’s hair was styled by Mark Townsend with makeup courtesy of Georgie Eisdell.

Hathaway’s “Verity” look was among her most regal red carpet maternity dresses yet. The Oscar-winning Les Misérables actress wore a strapless Atelier Prabal Gurung black gown with a full skirt and frame that accentuated her pregnant body.

Like Johnson’s attire, Hathaway’s look incorporated plenty of sparkle, though the crushed fabric on the bodice creating a rosette effect certainly elevated the look. A full skirt created a train that trailed the actress on the red carpet for added drama.

Accessories for Hathaway included bracelets and rings by Bulgari, for which Hathaway serves as an ambassador and campaign star. Hathaway’s hair was styled by Orlando Pita with makeup courtesy of artist Hung Vanngo. Stylist Erin Walsh curated Hathaway’s look.

While Hathaway and Johnson’s respective looks were not explicitly coordinated, they certainly served as sartorial complements to one another. Indeed, black and white is a classic color combination, and when each is worn by a different person, it still creates a unified aesthetic — plus, the sparkle certainly helps.

Hathaway and Johnson star alongside Josh Hartnett in “Verity,” an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name. The story follows Lowen Ashleigh, played by Johnson, who is hired to ghostwrite author Verity Crawford’s, played by Hathaway, book following an accident that leaves her paralyzed. Upon uncovering Verity’s autobiographical notes, Lowen discovers not everything is what it seems. The film hits theaters Friday.
