Ariana Grande is going back to her brunette roots.
In a new mirror selfie posted on her Instagram on Wednesday, the 32-year-old singer welcomed back her brunette self after nearly three years of keeping her hair stark blond for her role as “Glinda” in John Chu’s film adaptation of “Wicked.” Yet, her Glinda-isms proved to be just as strong under the mop of dark brown courtesy of colorist Francesco De Chiara.
“It’s good to see me, isn’t it?” she wrote. Beauty leaders Carl Bembridge and Hung Vanngo conveyed their admiration, writing “Gorgeous” next to a string of heart-eye emojis.

It was only fitting that De Chiara helped Grande transition back to her natural color after having painted her head in the light hue for the last few years, including her honey shade for the cover of “Eternal Sunshine.”
For the bouncy brown curls, however, Grande tapped hairstylist Alyx Liu, the same artist she worked with on her new “Wicked”-inspired R.e.m. Beauty collection campaign. WWD has contacted both De Chiara and Liu for comments.
The last time the “We Can’t Be Friends” artist was a brunette was during the early stages of filming for “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good” in December 2022. Behind-the-scenes clips of Grande during this time surfaced online last year, showing her and Cynthia Erivo practicing on the unfinished Shiz University set. Not long after, Grande channeled her inner Glinda, embracing a blond era through the promotion of part one of the series.
Longtime fans will remember Grande’s fiery red hair and cherry cola-colored hair eras when she was a star on the hit Nickelodeon series, “Victorious,” and later, “Sam and Cat.” The vibrant shade, though a significant part of her beauty evolution, lasted until 2012 before she transitioned to a caramel brown tone. It’s not certain whether this era of her brunette persona will stick around or whether she’ll go back to blond for the forthcoming “Wicked: For Good” press tour ahead of the movie’s premiere on Nov. 21.
