Usher took to the Super Bowl halftime stage on Sunday in Las Vegas wearing several embellished outfits.
Usher removed a floor-length fur coat to reveal his unorthodox suit, which featured a cropped oversize blazer with a rounded hemline. The R&B singer added on some sparkle with an embellished glove, a large brooch and a crystallized undershirt, completing his look with a pair of sleek white sneakers.
Usher was joined by Alicia Keys, who also wore a custom design. Her red corseted catsuit, which also came with a matching cape, was covered in rhinestones and sequins. Ludacris, H.E.R., Lil Jon, Jermaine Dupri and will.i.am were among the other musicians who joined Usher onstage.
Usher’s second look, a custom blue and black Off-White suit, was embellished with 394,000 crystals. His futuristic ensemble consisted of a leather biker jacket and trousers, as well as a knit turtleneck and lurex undershirt.
He skated onto the stage along with 15 backup dancers, revealing the singer’s new shoe collaboration. Usher teamed up with Riedell Skates and Liberty Ross, co-founder and creative director of Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace, to create a pair of leather and suede skating boots with blue accents.
Usher previously performed on skates during his two-year Las Vegas residency, which concluded last December.
“We are uniquely qualified to partner with Flipper’s and Usher because of our focus on executing innovative designs no one else in the industry can do, while using high-end materials,” said Bob Riegelman, president and chief executive officer of Riedell Skates, in an interview with Footwear News. “It is exciting both for us and for skaters on the rink.”
An annual tradition since the game’s inception in 1967, the NFL has recruited major stars as Super Bowl halftime show performers at its biggest event of the year. Previous halftime headliners include Lady Gaga, Madonna and Beyoncé.
