Martha Stewart, Narciso Rodriguez and Bethann Hardison are a few of the presenters who will be stepping in to help the Fashion Group International salute the honorees at next month’s “Night of Stars” gala in New York.
The Oct. 17 event at The Plaza hotel is being billed as “Legends and Leaders.” This year’s Lifetime Achievement honoree Dennis Basso will be celebrated by his ever-enterprising friend Stewart, whose fashion-mindedness was engrained a while ago. Years before she became a media mogul and a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, Stewart had a stint as fashion model. “Superstar” winner Andrew Bolton of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will receive his award from Instagram’s Eva Chen. Instagram sponsored the Costume Institute’s two-part show, which started with “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” in the fall of 2021 and was followed up in 2022 with “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.”
Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez will receive the Fashion Star award from Cathy Horyn, The Cut’s fashion critic-at-large, who appreciated their work early on in their careers.
Musician and Maestro Cares Foundation cofounder Marc Anthony will pick up the Humanitarian award from fashion designer Rodriguez. And Shiseido Americas’ Gail Boyé will be greeted by a familiar face when accepting the Beauty Innovation award: Shiseido Americas’ president and chief executive officer Ron Gee will be doing the honors. The fashion and culture thought leader Antoine Phillips will be presented with the Agent of Change award from Hardison. And when “The View” moderator and the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award winning talent Whoopi Goldberg officially adds FGI’s American Icon award to her accolades, Hilldun Corporation’s Gary Wassner will do the honors. Next month’s seated dinner and awards celebration will be FGI’s 39th.
